SeesmicAIR and Adobe AIR

Written by Critter on March 1, 2008 – 8:27 am -

SeesmicAIR is still currently only configured to run on Beta 3 or Adobe’s AIR platform. If you download the latest version from Adobe, SeesmicAIR will not run properly. You will need (until I update it) to use Beta 3 of Adobe’s AIR, which can be found at right here.

I do plan on having it updated to AIR 1.0 this weekend. I apologize for the delay.. things have just been a tad busy with the job switch over.

You are fired >>fast forward 2 days>> You are hired!

Written by Critter on February 24, 2008 – 2:56 pm -

So… I was made redundant from my company this past Friday. It happened during my yearly review. I actually got a weird feeling about it on Thursday when I was looking over my calendar for the next day. My review was setup for Friday at 4pm.. It just seemed like an odd time to me. End of day.. end of week.. Plus working in the mortgage industry, things have obviously been a bit slow lately.

I told one of the ladies that I work with, if there  are two people on the phone, I am getting laid off. Sure enough, my boss rang, said hello, then introduced someone from HR.

I jumped in, “Oh, I guess you are letting me go”

“So you were expecting this?”

“Two people on the phone, one of them being from HR”

So.. long story short.. I was let go. I have a ton of stuff to ship back to the office, but whaddayado, eh?

I posted a video on Seesmic, Friday saying I was available for hire. It led to talks this morning with Loic and Johann, and I am now officially a Seesmic employee. FTW!!

Suwheet!

SeesmicAIR .05 DE

Written by Critter on February 17, 2008 – 2:14 pm -

What is the ‘DE’ you ask? It basically stands for Dead End. Why such an ominous name? I knew that sniffing out the Seesmic API in it’s earliest stages before it was made public could lead to me constantly changing things in the program, and that is exactly what has happened. Seesmic has changed quite a few things in the API, and since they are still in the process of developing several key bits (for me anyway), I am pretty much at a stand still, but I wanted to get out what I had up to this point.

I will not be making any updates to this version, unless there is a serious bug to fix.

This version includes:

  • Minimize to systray (notifications are not available in this release)
  • Threads/conversations
  • Public Timeline
  • Viewing of videos
  • Standalone url copy to clipboard
  • Launch video in seesmic.

There will be bugs. I do already have a lot of them fixed in for the next release, but that could still be a bit of time as I have to work on the Jabber user creation within the program, and wait for the rest of the new API to be taken live.

Please, if you have an issue with program, take a minute to document the issue at my bug tracker.

You can download the latest version on my project page.

Development updates

Written by Critter on February 14, 2008 – 12:11 pm -

Since Seesmic is in the process of changing their API to a slightly different format, there really is no sense to continue coding against the old API.

While the changes that are needed to adapt to the new API are not all that drastic, I still have a lot of things to sort out with it. And as it is still in a development cycle itself, things might not go as quickly as I (or anyone would like).

For new video notifications I am connecting to the Seesmic Jabber Server. While this has been achieved, I still need to code in the actual user account creation through @SeesmicAIR. I will probably concentrate on getting those bits sorted next. Hopefully, by then, I will be able to catch up quickly to the Seesmic Dev Team.

What does all this mean to you? Probably nothing, but I will release what I have up to now. Are there bugs in it? I am sure there are, but it still does the job. The build to be released does include conversations/threads.

Anyway, I will post it later tonight. When the API switches over (to the new REST) this version will no longer work, but I /should/ have things all sorted by then.

SeesmicAIR in your systray and on your desktop

Written by Critter on February 6, 2008 – 2:27 pm -

Of course it’s on your desktop, but now you have the ability to minimize the application to the system tray (or dock on mac?) and receive notifications on your desktop when a new video is posted to Seesmic

The notification window will, eventually, be prettied up a bit.. but hey.. let’s get it working correctly first, right?

The notifications are delivered via a connection with the Seesmic Jabber Server. This also allows room for expansion into groups, etc.. as Seesmic grows…

Big props to the Seesmic Development team for their assistance.
